About Catherine Jacobson
Catherine Jacobson was adopted from South Korea when she was just shy of seven months. Her parents, Nadine and Steve Jacobson, are both blind and have exposed Catherine and her older sister, Elizabeth, to the disability community growing up. Catherine grew up in the National Federation of the Blind knowing that her own blindness did not stop her potential of becoming a successful adult and human being. The etiology of Catherine's blindness is albinism.
Catherine is graduating summa cum laude from Hamline University in May 2017. She will be receiving a bachelor of arts in Public Health Sciences and Social Justice, with a Health Equity concentration. During her time at Hamline she has been extremely involved with her university. Catherine has held leadership roles in Hamline’s student activities board, peer health education group, and literary and arts journal. Catherine also works in the Dean of Students Office, is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa, and has received Hamline’s most prestigious award, the John Wesley Leadership and Service Award.
In addition to her campus involvement, Catherine has interned for the National Federation of the Blind, The United States Senate, The American Association of People with Disabilities, and UCare.
In Catherine’s free time she enjoys journaling, playing guitar, and watching/rewatching episodes of very long TV series on Netflix. In the fall of 2017 Catherine will be attending the University of Minnesota School of Public Health to begin her MPH in Public Health Administration and Policy. In the future, Catherine hopes to do nonpartisan health care policy analysis with a focus on health equity.
